A high school swimming coach in Sacramento has removed from his post after trying to pull a swimmer out of the pool by her hair following a race.

Geoff Capell was an assistant for Roseville High before he lately resigned from his post. He had tried to pull the captain of Roseville’s swim team Jennifer McCarroll out of the pool by her hair on April 29 during a race. Capell was reportedly displeased at McCarroll and another swimmer for “planned disqualification” in the race for the reason that their team was not going to move on in the championship, no matter what result they showed. Capell was a unpaid assistant, who was working with his daughter, Kelly Capell, who is the varsity coach.

On Monday, May 2, Roseville Joint Unified School District director of pupil services Steve Williams apologized.

“We are very sorry that this unfortunate incident occurred,” Williams said. “A physical response like this by any coach for any reason cannot and will not be supported.”

The swimmers were faced discipline from Coach Kelly Capell for their suspected tank job, but Geoff Capell was faced a more severe punishment. The county district attorney is still deciding whether to file charges against the prior volunteer assistant. McCarroll’s mother called police and according to the Fox 40 report, she felt an physical attack took place.
