She met her husband in a football match between Univesity of southern California and University of Norte Dame. The two started dating and got engaged soon afterwards. Both the families approved of marriage. At the time of the marriage, Dan, her husband was in medical school.
On their return from the honeymoon, they announced that they were expecting. The couple had four children together, one daughter, two sons and one son who died only four days after birth. Dan upon finishing medical school announced that he wanted to persue a career in law and not become a practicing doctor. So he joined harvard law school while his wife took on part time jobs to support the family and his studies.
Dan went on to become a medical malpractice attorney. Their marriage through the hard times had faced many problems and was deteriorating rapidly. After Dan hired a receptionist, Linda Kolkena, an affair began between the two. Dan soon afterwards moved out of the family house, and the couple divorced.
He took custody of the children when Betty asked but owing to his connections with the different lawyers, she always felt that the divorce settlement did not protect her well and she harbored great anger toward her ex and his new wife. Five years after the divorce, she got a gun and shot the couple in their sleep.
