Sudoku, The Puzzle Game of Numbers

Sudoku, logic based puzzle based on placing numbers from one to nine at different locations, has Japanese origin and but its ancestry is also seen in the French. A renowned French newspaper, stated publishing a three by three grid that is to be filled with numbers according to some logic but the difference in that puzzle was that double digit numbers were also used. This was at the time before the first world war.

Later in 1985, Nikoli Co. Ltd, a Japanese publishing group published the first puzzle by the name of Sudoku and this was an instant hit. The original puzzle consists of a three by three grid that is to be filled with digits from one to nine and no digit is to repeat in a horizontal, or vertical line or in a box.

Today sudoku has gained worldwide popularity among people of all races and ages. It is considered among the top puzzles and is the favorite activity of young and old. A new puzzle is printed in newspapers of many different countries to present people with entertainment. There are international competitions held among individuals check who can solve the puzzle in the least amount of time.

The first international sudoku championship was held in Italy in 2006 and the winner was from Czech Republic. People have developed many variants of the game with two by two, four by four and five by five grids. Sudoku gained even more popularity in Australia during a drug use jury based trial. It was discovered midway the trial that five out of the twelve jurors were not paying attention towards that evidence that was being presented in front of them. They were busy enjoying their game of sudoku. This event cost a huge media hype and cost the government around 1000000 Australian dollars.
