National Cherry Blossom Festival is celebrated to memorize the even that take place on March 27, 1912. On this day Japan's that time president presented the Japanese Cherry Blossom plant to the city of Washington to establish the friendly relations between the two countries. From then, this day is celebrated each year.
In the begining it was celebrated for a single day, but later it spread over three week as it is also the begining of spring season. Now many different activities are also included in the celebrations i.e. exhibitions, music, tours of park, paraded and theater etc. One can enjoy the beautiful festivities that mark the begining of spring. In the begining it was limited to Washington but now it is celebrated in many parts of the U.S.A.
This is to celebrate and appreciate natural beauty of plants and a great opportunity to learn about the different plant species from around the globe. Not only that, this event is a major tourist attraction, especially for people who enjoy gardening and are naturalists.
The parade is the biggest and the most interesting event of the occasion. With huge depictions of Japanese as well as American culture, flocks of people gather to enjoy the many great dances and traditional exhibits that help in strengthening the bond between the two countries.
This event also includes a peagent for women and young girls as one queen and four princesses are chosen each year. Not only that, an Air show is presented by jet aircrafts making the entire celebration even more admirable. Other than that there are numerous street parties and food fairs where people can enjoy Japanese food and learn about their culture. The celebration finishes off with a grand finale that involves fun family activities and tremendously beautiful fireworks.
