Jerry Sloan

Jerry Sloan and longtime top assistant coach Phil Johnson will reportedly resign in a press conference later today after coaching the Utah Jazz for 23 years. He was the current longest-tenured coach in American professional sports.

Sloan said at his press conference that he hadn't had an opportunity to talk to his players once the decision to step down was made. He said he ran into Jazz guard Ronnie Price at the arena just before the press conference, but that had been the extent of his contact.

NBA commissioner David Stern also released a statement, which is outside the norm when it comes to coaching changes.

Sloan decided to step down at halftime of last night's loss to the Chicago Bulls following a dust-up with Jazz All-Star point guard Deron Williams.
