Serotonin the happiness hormone

Serotonin is a hormone found in the central nervous system. It is a neurotransmitter a protein based chamical. It has many function in the body specialy  the mood of a human. It works on the emotional responses, sleep cycle, apetite, and mood swings of a person. serotonin lessen the depression and made the mood of a human happy.

Majority of the people around the world is inflicted with depression due to loneliness, lack of jobs, lack of income, broken relationships, or many other economic and social problems.

Due to its potent ability to control a person’s moods, this chemical compound is largely being used in anti depression drugs. Research has shown that it can elevate moods readily and is very effective for the treatment of severe depression.

Today many pharmaceutical companies are using this chemical in their drugs making them effective to treat depression. There are many food products that can help elevate serotonin levels, resulting in changing a person’s moods. There include turkey meat, wheat, sea food, whey protein, bananas, eggs and most commonly used dark chocolate.

Although, initially scientists thought of it as a chemical with many great benefits, and named it the happiness hormone, it was soon discovered that this drug had great a many side effects. Ingestion of excessive quantities of this can lead to the impairment of the nervous system leading to such diseases as schizoperenia, alzheimers and disturbances of sleep / wake cycle.

There are drugs available that can help with modifying one’s mood but one must never use such drugs without first consulting the physician first. Secondly one must keep in mind that our bodies can manufacture serotonin naturally. Its level can be elevated by adapting to healthy habits like walking, jogging and regular exercise.

The most important advantage of taking up these habits is the avoidance of all the side effects since the body will never produce poisonous levels of the chemical.
