Kawasaki Disease

Kawasaki Disease is also known as mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome. It is a desease of the arterial system. All arteries of the human body including the coronary artery which supply the blood to the heart itself are affected by this disease. Kawasaki causes inflamation in the walls of the arteries. 

It also affects the lymph nodes. Lymphatic system is responsible for the supply of oxygen and nutrition to the body parts where the blood could not reach i.e. Skin, nails, hair etc. Mucous menbranes in side the mouth is also affected by the disease. Kawasaki is commonly the disease of children below 12.

Signs of the disease:

Peeling skin and high fever are the main signs of the disease. It is a curable disease most of the patiants recovered without having any serious problems.

Causes of the Kawasaki:

causes of the disease are unknown. Some of the physicians linke it with bacteria, or virsus but this disease is not transfer from one to an other and this is against the theory of bacterial or virul disease.

Symptoms in First phase:


* Fever, which often is higher than 101.3 F.
* Extremely red eyes.
* A rash on the main part of the body (trunk) and in the genital area
* Red, dry, cracked lips and an extremely red, swollen tongue.
* Swollen, red skin on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet
* Swollen lymph nodes in the neck and perhaps elsewhere
* Irritability

Symptoms in Second phase:


* Peeling of the skin on the hands and feet. often in large sheets
* Joint pain
* Diarrhea
* Vomiting
* Abdominal pain

Symptoms in Third phase:

In the third phase of the disease, signs and symptoms slowly go away unless complications develop. It may be as long as eight weeks before energy levels seem normal again.

When to see a doctor:

If your child has a fever that lasts more than four days, contact your child’s doctor. Or, see your child’s doctor if your child has a fever along with four or more of the following
signs and symptoms:

* Redness in both eyes
* A very red, swollen tongue
* Redness of the palms or soles
* Skin peeling
* A rash
* Swollen lymph nodes
