Katie Couric is a world renowned journalist of American origin known for her works in The Today’s show, CBS Evening news and Dateline NBC. She was born in Arlington, Virginia in 1954 and attended different public schools in the state of Virginia. She joined University of Virginia in 1975 and graduated with a degree in English and American studies. Her career started with a job in ABC News in Washington. After that, she joined CNN as an assignment editor. From 1984 to 1986, she worked as a reporter for WTVJ in Miami, Florida. Afterwards she joined WRC-TV where she was honored for the first time for her work, she got an Associated Press award along with an Emmy.
In 1989 she joined NBC’s Today where for two years she worked as a substitute for any anchor who was not able to make it. In 1991, when one of their anchor’s left permanantly, she was promoted as a permanent co anchor. She worked for this broadcasting institution for many years and left in 2006. She then joined CBS’s evening news. She is the highest paid news anchors in the world earning a sum of fifteen million US dollars per year. Her shows have earned her many awards including emmys and best newscast award. She, during the course of her career has interviewed many different personalities including the former president of United States, George W. Bush, Condelliza Rice, Norah Jones, and Micheal J. Fox. She also interviewed the former vice presidential candidate of the Republican Party, Sarah Palin and it is said that her interviews defined the results of the election for the republican party in 2008. She has been involved in many efforts for raising awareness among people about colorectal cancer. She herself got her endoscopy done on air. For her services in the research for this cancer, she has been awarded an honorary doctoral degree by the university of Case Western Reserve University.
