Face Transplant, Dallas Wiens, a 25-year-old, constriction worker from Texas received a new face after 15-hours long surgical procedure in Brigham and Women's Hospital and became the Very first American who received the Full Face Fransplant.
Wiens received a new skin, nose, lips, muscle and nerves from an unidentified person who died in an accident. All expenses were paid by the U.S. military. U.S. military officials want to learned to help the soldiers who got severe facial wounds during the war.
Wiens was horribly disfigured in a power line accident when he was using a cherry-picker lift to paint a church in November 2008 and hit a power line. Live electrical wire burned off his nose, lips, and all the face. He remained in coma for three months. He became horrible without face. He is a father of three year old daughter. Now he can hope to smiling again and have kissing with her daughter.
Wiens will not resemble “either what he used to be or the donor,” but something in between, said plastic surgeon Dr. Bohdan Pomahac). “The tissues are really molded on a new person.”
