Austin Bice, Madrid Police have set up a search for Austin Bice 22-year-old San Diego state University exchange student who was missing in Madrid in early hours of Feb, 26.
He was discotheque after visiting a nightclub. Austin Bice was last seen outside Riviera Concert Vanue.
One of his friend Maria Garcia said, " Austin Bice and his friends had been drinking at an apartment before going out to the club. We tried to stop him to go out as he was looked unwell. A friend remained outside with him due to his drunken state until Austin said that he was going home.
"He had left his credit cards and passport in his room, and had not taken a winter coat, so we're concerned because it was very cold that night," she added.
Larry Bice, the student's father, from Carlsbad, California, told The Associated Press he had flown to Madrid to help search for his son and that "the police are doing a great job, they have been very active."
Posters with recent photographs of Bice have been placed around the city seeking information.
Bice's father said his son was physically fit, tall – six-foot-four (195 centimeters) – and had recently climbed Mt. Whitney with his father.
Garcia said Bice had only been in Madrid for a month and a half, so was not yet fully acquainted with the area. She said that police and later friends had carefully combed the area around the club and found no trace of Bice.
The body of Austin Bice, a U.S. exchange student from California was pulled out of a Madrid river on Tuesday, a police official said.
The cause of death was not known but there were no immediate signs of foul play in the death of Austin Bice, the National Police official said.
An autopsy will be carried out Tuesday or Wednesday. It is not clear when the results will be released but the information will be given to Bice's family and to a Spanish investigating magistrate, the Madrid government said.
Bice's body was found in the Manzanares River, a shallow, slow-moving waterway that runs through western Madrid, in a spot not far from the nightclub where he was last seen in the early hours of Feb. 26, said the police official.
