Tim Richmond was the former driver of NASDCAR. He was died of AIDS almost 22 years ago at the age of 34.Race fans remember him for "Days of Thunder".
The Daytona 500 holds a significant place in the life of Tim Richmond as well. It was all the way back in 1987 that Richmond was forced to miss the race with an illness that was at first determined to be double pneumonia.
He returned back to the track in 1987. In his first race back, at Pocono, he won. He’d win again the next week in California. But that would be the last time Tim Richmond ever went to victory lane. His Cup career ended with a blown engine at Michigan International Speedway on Aug. 16, 1987.
He also banned from racing by NASCAR because of the use of drugs. He spend his final days in Florida.On Aug, 13, 1989, he called his mother to his hospital room in West Palm Beach but he had died alone before she reached.
