MTSU alert said the shooting was reported shortly before noon at the Business and Aerospace building, reports CBS affiliate WTVR.
According to the alert, two men were talking when a man brandishing a gun and shot the other in the hand.
“I was headed to Subway for a sandwich and there was a weak argument between a black man greater wearing a plaid shirt and khaki jeans and what looked like a child in high school. Then j I heard a shot behind me, “said one witness. “There were hundreds of students around what I was thinking if there was a sudden, he had fired in the air.”
Officials said the victim was treated for an injured thumb. His identity was not released.
The area around the building was on lock. Officials have asked everyone on campus to stay indoors as secure as possible WTVR, reports.

Investigators asked anyone who witnessed the shooting to present and speak with police.
Representatives of Murfreesboro City Schools said Bradley near the Academy and Discovery School at Reeves-Rogers were also placed on the lock while police search the suspect. Restrictions have been lifted since.
