Hilary Duff, Hilary Erhard Duff (born September 28, 1987) is an American actress and singer. After working in local theater and television in her childhood, Duff gained fame for playing the title role in the Disney Channel television series Lizzie McGuire. She then ventured into films and has many hit movies to her credit, including Lizzie McGuire Movie, Cheaper by the Dozen, A Cinderella Story and Cheaper by the Dozen 2. She most recently starred in under and Greta Stay Cool. In December 2010, her upcoming movies include, Bloodworth, The Story of Bonnie and Clyde Me and She Wants.
Duff has expanded her repertoire into pop music with the release of three RIAA certified platinum albums: Metamorphosis, her first studio album, was certified triple platinum and was supplemented by two more platinum albums, Hilary Duff and Most Wanted. In 2007, she released her third studio album, Dignity, which was certified gold later that year and spawned singles “With Love” – its highest single mapping to date of U.S. – and “Stranger”. Best of Hilary Duff, a compilation of her greatest success, was published in the last quarter of 2008 production of her third # 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs with the single “Reach Out”. Duff has sold more than thirteen million records worldwide, and its contribution to the music industry have earned him critical and commercial success worldwide, while it ranked 69th Billboard artist of the decade of the 2000s.
Bifurcation in the fashion industry, Duff has also launched her own clothing line, Stuff by Hilary Duff for Women and DKNY Jeans, and two exclusive perfume collections with Elizabeth Arden as well as having been signed modeling agency IMG Models. Among other business ventures to write a novel for young adults Elixir and be accredited as executive producer for In Greta and a producer for the films Material Girls and Beauty & the Briefcase.
Duff was born in Houston, Texas, the second of two daughters, Susan Colleen (nee Cobb), a housewife, and Robert Erhard Duff, a partner in a chain of convenience stores. She has an older sister, Haylie Duff, who is also an actress / singer. Hilary Duff mother encouraged taking acting classes alongside her elder sister, which led to two girls winning roles in various local theater productions. At the age of eight and six, respectively, the Duff sisters participated in the ballet, The Nutcracker with the Columbus BalletMet in San Antonio. The siblings became more enthusiastic about the idea of choosing acting as a profession, and later moved to California with their mother while their father is the family home in Houston to take care of their business. After several years of hearings and meetings, the Duff sisters were cast in several commercials. In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2009, Duff said she was home schooled because of her departure at the beginning of an acting career.
Duff launched her clothing line “Stuff by Hilary Duff, in March 2004 with clothes distributed through Target in the United States, Kmart in Australia, Zellers in Canada and Edgars Stores in South Africa. The company initially started as a clothing line, has expanded its business into furniture, fragrances and jewelry, targeted at the young teen and preteen crowd. In February 2009, Duff and DKNY Jeans announced their partnership to design and launch new clothing line for their collaboration. Play mates Toys released a celebrity doll of her in 2004. In late 2006, Mattel released a Hilary Duff Barbie doll. As a fashion designer, she designed clothes for Barbie dolls in the past and with the release of her doll, she joined Reese Witherspoon, Beyonce Knowles and Lucille Ball who have their own celebrity dolls.
In September 2006, Duff released her perfume, “With Love … Hilary Duff”, which was distributed by Elizabeth Arden. The perfume was initially sold only at Macy’s in the U.S. and soon it was sold in other regions like Japan and Canada. “With Love … Hilary Duff” was one of three best selling fragrances launched in major stores in the United States in late 2006. In the console versions of the game, Duff’s character visits public areas and allows players to let their Sims socialize with her and Lola.
