UFC Fight For The Troops

UFC  Fight For The Troops : From the moment the bout was announced, it was clear what Cody McKenzie wanted to do. The question is whether or not Yves Edwards was the man to stop him. The ATT product has the tools, but his career had been up and down of late.

McKenzie opened the round diving onto Edwards' hips as he wanted no part of the ATT fighter's considerable stand-up skills. After a brief engagement in the clinch, McKenzie made a desperate attempt to take Edwards down and after being stuffed, hung on to Edwards' heel but to no avail. Edwards then began to pepper McKenzie from outside as McKenzie continued to make desperate attempts to take Edwards down although without setting them up with any strikes whatsoever. A brief tussle ended with McKenzie trying to land an upside down body triangle. More takedown attempts from McKenzie as the round closes that go nowhere.

After getting corner advice, Edwards used the jab, which not only landed but set up other strikes to open the second round. After landing two outisde leg kicks McKenzie attempted another takedown, which failed but set up an ensuing scramble where he was able to take Edwards' back and drag him the ground. Moving on the ground McKenzie positioned to north-south and back to Edwards' back. And then again. Edwards reverses position with a minute left and even moves to mount, then takes McKenzie's back. In the scramble, Edwards rolled through and sunk the rear naked choke. McKenzie did not tap and was put to sleep.

The fight was stopped at 4:33 of the second round.
