The late AR Schell Jr. was a founding member and founding an early president of the Plano Chamber of Commerce for more than six decades. He was mayor of 1932-1948, the 16 years still stands as the longest tenure of any individual position.
The name Schell holds much weight in Plano, and Jamie Schell and several other big names Plano VIP will receive a well-deserved recognition at the luncheon to be held at Collin College Conference Center.
Lunch this year celebrates 65 years of community partnerships.
“My grandfather has always been an important component of this chapter, as was my father”, Schell said, also referring to another former House member Plano – his father, AR Schell III.
“I also served [on the Plano Chamber] back in the 90s, there has been a big part of our lives and our business. My family believes in him, and I am a strong supporter of it. It’s like it was in my blood. ”
Lunch, in addition to marking the 65th anniversary will pay tribute to the eminent representatives of the House Plano, as well as partnerships with the City of Plano, Collin College, Plano ISD and Plano Economic Development Board.
Camille Ussery, the new chairman of the House Plano, said events such as these provide opportunities for residents to reflect and honor those who helped build the city into what it is today.
“Many times we as citizens can be complacent in the city where we live and to forget all that has been a part of,” said Ussery. “This is a celebration of partnerships, but more specifically, each partnership will be the opportunity to share with us some of their success stories. ”
Ussery said this year’s lunch would include a unique twist; these success stories will be shared through the testimony of cardboard. In addition to a contemporary setting, representatives will share their stories of trials to triumph in minimum words written on the cardboard.
Written on one side of a piece of cardboard show where a company was once, perhaps locate a firm or any individual times of weakness. The other side of the box will show you where this business is today and how far he has come. Few words will be said literally, as appropriate.
“When you look at what Plano has to offer, it does not happen by itself,” said Ussery. “We celebrate 65 anniversary of the Plano Chamber, but in our celebration, we recognize a number of important community partnerships and how they came.”
For Schell, the story began with personally have been in business about 30 years. He is now the owner of AR Schell & Son Agency, once a small independent insurance company founded by his grandfather who is not only in its 81st year of existence, but is also a staple community in Plano.
“This event marks only a milestone for all business owners in Plano. Sixty-five years is something to be really proud,” said Schell. “In business one or two people all the path to big business, it is a credit to the dynamic growth in Plano Texas and the North.
“As for what my grandfather accomplished, we hope we shall have to see another 65. I see only the brightest of the word.”
Ussery added, “[AR Schell Jr.] Loved this community. The whole family Schell was an important part of the community for many years. They not only donated their time and resources, but also gave many ‘themselves. ”
