Her autobiography, tentatively titled "Barefoot Stories," will include "stories -- spanning her childhood in Texas, her arrival in New York City with only a small suitcase and a guitar, and her adult life and distinguished acting career," the statement from her publisher said.
The book is scheduled for release in 2012.
“I’m thrilled to be writing this book," the 61-year-old actress said in the statement. "I just wish I had studied harder in English class,” she added.
Spacek has been nominated for an Academy Award for best actress six times in a career that has spanned four decades.
Her first nomination came for the role of Carrie White in the 1976 horror film "Carrie," followed by the accolade for her portrayal of Lynn in the 1980 film "Coal Miner's Daughter," and for subsequent films "Missing," "The River," "Crimes of the Heart," and "In the Bedroom."
She has most recently been a guest-star on the HBO drama "Big Love."
