Hello and welcome to the IPL auctions. As many as 350 players are up for grabs in this brand new auction. Here are some of the important points relating to the auction before it gets underway at 11:00 AM IST.

# 353 players are up for grabs.

# These are the players that have been retained by the franchisees

# Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Kieron Pollard and Lasith Malinga.

# Chennai: MS Dhoni, M Vijay, Suresh Raina and Albie Morkel.

# Rajasthan: Shane Warne and Shane Watson.

# Delhi: V Sehwag.

# Bangalore: V Kohli.

# Each franchisee will have a maximum of $9 million, since Mumbai and Chennai have retained 4 of their players, they will have only $4.5 million. Rajasthan have $3.9 million, while Bangalore and Delhi have $7.2 million. The other franchisees all have their $9 million to spend.

# A total of 10 franchisees are bidding for the 350 players. The new franchisees this time are the Sahara Pune Warriors and Kochi.

# The contract is for two years 2011-2012 (extendable by one year).

# A franchisee can have a maximum of 30 players and a minimum of 16. Only 10 overseas players can be bought, while a maximum of 4 can play in the final eleven.

# It’s expected that the marquee players will be auctioned first.

The players are: AB de Villiers, Tillkaratne Dilshan, Gautam Gambhir, Mahela Jayawardene, Zaheer Khan, Yusuf Pathan, Kevin Pietersen, Yuvraj Singh, Ross Taylor, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Adam Gilchrist, Kumar Sangakkara, Rohit Sharma, Graeme Smith, Andrew Symonds, Cameron White, Johan Botha, Chris Gayle, VVS Laxman, Brendon McCullum, Irfan Pathan, RP Singh, Sreesanth, Robin Uthappa and Daniel Vettori.

# The big name that is in the auction is the former West Indian great, Brian Charles Lara. His base price is $400,000 but it looks unlikely that any franchisee will pay such a high price for him. Whether he will be bought remains to be seen.

# The hot picks are Yusuf Pathan, Davey Jacobs and the hard hitting Victorian opener Aaron Finch. The Bangladesh duo of Shakib and Tamim will be much sought after too for they are the ideal picks considering their utility value. Shakib is an all-rounder, while Tamim is a fine opening bat.

# According to me, the Sri Lankan all-rounder, Thissara Perera is a fine pick. He is a hard-hitter and bowls some useful medium pace. Another good pick would be the pace bowlers – Kemar Roach, Jerome Taylor, Shaun Tait and Co. With their express pace, they can knock a few over early on and give their side a huge advantage.

# The new names in this year’s auction are: Graeme Swann, James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Peter Siddle. Nathan McCullum too is there. Brendon McCullum, the brother of Nathan played for Kolkata last time, this time who will he play for? We will know in just a bit.

# Any Indian domestic player who has not played for India, will not be up for sale in this auction. So players like Manish Pandey, Ambati Rayudu and R Satish will have to wait to know which side they will be playing for this time.

# Some of the big news missing from the auction this time are Hayden, McGrath, Kumble – who pulled out citing his business and administrative commitments and Flintoff.

# Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Mitchell Johnson have opted out of the IPL auctions this time.
