Former supermodel Christie Brinkley is throwing her support behind a campaign calling for the closure of all nuclear power plants across the U.S.

Billy Joel’s ex has previously joined forces with United Nations officials to raise awareness about the need for nuclear disarmament, and she’s leaping into action again in light of the disaster in Japan.

The Japanese government is struggling to contain radiation levels around a nuclear centre damaged in the 9.0-magnitude earthquake last month (Mar11), and Brinkley is pleading with U.S. authorities to take action now to protect the country from its own possible future meltdown.

In an interview on U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Wednesday (06Apr11), she says, “Now with what’s going on in Japan… I want to get the message out that nuclear power plants are dangerous. We haven’t contained them…”

And Brinkley is particularly concerned about one plant in upstate New York, just 38 miles (61 kilometres) from the city centre.

She adds, “Right here in New York City is just too close. If you love Broadway, if you love everything the Big Apple has to offer, we can’t allow Indian Point (Energy Center) to stay open another day.”

According to the National Enquirer, “Nearly a year after the death of his longtime love Farrah Fawcett, Ryan O’Neal is writing a new “Love Story” with former model Cheryl Tiegs. The friendship between Ryan, 69, and Cheryl, 62, has blossomed into romance since they ran into one another at Farrah Fawcett’s funeral last June, The Enquirer has learned.”
                                                               
“Around the time of Farrah’s passing, Cheryl had just broken off a 7-year relationship with world explorer and endurance bicyclist Dan Buettner. During the funeral service for the “Charlie’s Angels” star and for months afterward, Cheryl comforted grieving Ryan, who had been with Farrah more than 20 years before she died of cancer. Over the last year, the friendship betweent the “Sports Illustrated” model and the star of “Love Story” grew into a “full-blown love affair,” says a source.”

62-year old Cheryl Tiegs looks undeniably great considering her age, but many wonder if the former supermodel isn’t teetering on the precipice of too much plastic surgery.

Since making a name for herself back in the 1980s, Cheryl has been rumored to have gone under the knife for a breast augmentation, facelift and possible multiple nose jobs.

In 2008, OcBody plastic surgeon told an interviewer:

“Since the seventies … I’d wager she’s had a few rhinoplasties. She has probably also had a face lift or two as her cheeks don’t seem to descend the way they should have over time.”

“I found a few pics online indicating that she may have had breast implants in the late seventies or early-to-mid-eighties. At that time implants were smaller and easier to hide when a lady wanted to do so. She may have had them removed in more recent times as many women of the time did.”

Models Cheryl Tiegs, Beverly Johnson, Stephanie Seymour and Christie Brinkley joined in for supermodel reunion on "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

The women all talked about getting started modeling and how hard it is to go through the aging process as a woman. But Cheryl doesn't think it's any harder for a supermodel than it is for anyone else. "I think every woman, maybe every man, looks in the mirror and says, 'Oh my God, there's a wrinkle,'" Cheryl says. "So we're all in the same boat."
                                                  
Christie Brinkley talks about keeping herself looking so great into your 50s and 60s. She cites her vegetarian diet and workout regimen, plus "great genes." "My mom, at 80, is gorgeous," says Brinkley. But she does say that every woman needs a great dermatologist.

Beverly Johnson says that her goal as she ages is to use her fame to be a voice for domestic violence survivors. "I am a victim of domestic violence. I just think we've become so desensitized towards women being beaten and abused and murdered that everybody just thinks it's okay, and it's not."
