Is Lauren Conrad hiding something about her love life?” asks the New York Post.

According to the paper, “The Hills” star “is said to be secretly engaged to boyfriend Kyle Howard, whom she’s been dating since 2008.”

So where’s the ring?

“She is not wearing a ring because she wants to hold the secret back for her new MTV show,” says a supposed source for the outlet.

For real?

No.

A rep for Conrad says “she was laughing over the story,” which is totally “false.”

W Magazine Kim Kardashian Pics

W Magazine Kim Kardashian Pics, Apparently, the photographs that came out of Kim Kardashian’s photoshoot with W Magazine weren’t exactly what she expected, if her tearful reaction on ‘Kourtney & Kim Take New York’ was any indication.

Kim was nude but covered in body paint. She thought the people at W Magazine would add more things in to cover her up.

‘Oh my God, I’m more naked than I was in Playboy,” she said. “I’m so mad right now … [the magazine] promised I would be covered with artwork — you can see nipple!

“The whole concept was sold to me that nothing would be seen,” the socialite said. “I feel so taken advantage of … I’ve definitely learned my lesson. I’m never taking my clothes off again, even if it’s for Vogue.”

She then made the oath that, “I’m never taking my clothes off again, even if it’s for Vogue.” Really? Do you believe her?She then made the oath that, “I’m never taking my clothes off again, even if it’s for Vogue.” Really? Do you believe her?She then made the oath that, “I’m never taking my clothes off again, even if it’s for Vogue.” Really? Do you believe her?

Those pictures (you can see one here) are very revealing, but I’m surprised that Kim is so surprised. She’s not exactly new to all this stuff. Well, at least she has experience dealing with embarrassing situations.

Kim Kardashian, who came to prominence in pop culture after a sex tape with her boyfriend at the time surfaced hasn’t just posed nude once but twice. First she took it all off for Playboy, and then she took it all off for W Magazine. One was a men’s mag and one a fashion mag, but when you get right down to it, it’s just Kim naked be it art or nudie pics.

President of the Jury 2010 Holly Hunter

Holly Hunter, one of the bravest and most nuanced actresses in American film, will be President of the Jury this year. The jury will choose the winner of literally the world’s heaviest film award, the 7.3 kilo Bronze Horse, from the directors in Stockholm XXI Competition. Holly Hunter will also participate in a Face2Face with the festival audience.

“I am honored to be serving as this year’s jury president at the Stockholm International Film Festival. I’m especially excited that this year’s festival is celebrating the extraordinary achievements of filmmaker Gus Van Sant. I look forward to meeting my fellow jury members and having the privilege of seeing and discussing a selection of world-class movies with them. I’ve never been to Stockholm and now I’ll get the opportunity to be enchanted by a city and a country that have contributed so much to world cinema,” says Holly Hunter.

Holly Hunter landed her first starring role in Raising Arizona by the Coen brothers in 1987 and made her broad breakthrough the same year with the romantic comedy Broadcast News. In 1994 she earned an Academy Award for her role in The Piano and was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress for The Firm by Sydney Pollack.

Holly Hunter has played unforgettable roles in some of the most admired films at the Stockholm International Film Festival throughout the years. In 1996 she gave a striking performance in David Cronenberg’s provocative Crash. In 2003, Thirteen by Catherine Hardwick was in the official competition, and she not only won the hearts of our audience with her performance but was also nominated for an Academy Award. In 2005 she played a magnificent role in the stellar ensemble drama Nine Lives by Rodrigo García. Hunter was recently seen in TNT’s edgy drama Saving Grace

“Holly Hunter is a unique actress with the ability to make her often eccentric characters naturally spring to life. She is also a fervent supporter of independent film, and it’s a great honor for us that she will lead the jury this year,” says festival director Git Scheynius.

The Stockholm XXI Competition will contain up to 20 films by directors making their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd feature. Holly Hunter along with four yet unannounced members of the jury will select winners in seven different categories. Among prior recipients of the Bronze Horse are Quentin Tarantino, Lars von Trier, Courtney Hunt and Yorgos Lanthimos. and earned nominations for an Emmy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

The 21st Stockholm International Film Festival will take place November 17-28, 2010

Judge Roger Vinson

In a big loss for the Obama administration, a federal judge has thrown out the entire Health Care Reform law. Judge Roger Vinson in Florida found today that the requirement in the law that all Americans buy health insurance or pay a fine “exceeds Congress’ power” under the Commerce Clause.

Vinson rules that the rest of the health care law cannot stand on its own. A judge in Virginia last month came to a similar conclusion about the Individual Mandate . But today's ruling goes further; the Virginia ruling allowed the rest of the law to stand while the individual mandate was challenged.

Key quote on individual mandate from Vinson's ruling today:

“I conclude that the individual mandate seeks to regulate Economic Inactivity, which is the very opposite of economic activity. And because activity is required under the Commerce Clause, the individual mandate exceeds Congress’ commerce power”

Key quote throwing out the whole law:

“I must conclude that the individual mandate and the remaining provisions are all inextricably bound together in purpose and must stand or fall as a single unit….In the final analysis, this Act has been analogized to a finely crafted watch, and that seems to fit. It has approximately 450 separate pieces, but one essential piece (the individual mandate) is defective and must be removed.”

The Obama administration is sure to appeal.

Wally Judge

Wally Judge, One of the more celebrated recruits in K-State's recent history is no longer a member of the Wildcat program, as Wally Judge is leaving K-State for unspecified, though likely personal, reasons. It's unknown at this point where Judge will transfer.

Judge's departure marks easily the lowest point of an already disastrous season for K-State. Most of us had reached the point where we had come to terms with writing this season off as a failure, even one of epic proportions. What we now must stomach is the fact that the next few years are looking darker as well. As undeveloped as Judge was in his sophomore season, he still represented the K-State player with the highest ceiling.

It's also now obvious that Frank Martin needs to make some adjustments. Last year, Texas and Rick Barnes suffered through a disastrous collapse after the team reached No. 1. In the offseason, Barnes examined everything he believed about basketball and made changes where necessary. K-State's talent level this year is nowhere close to that of Texas last year, and there's no doubt that UT's talent level this year will far exceed that of K-State next year. However, if Frank is going to turn things around from this disastrous season, he's going to have to do a searching evaluation.

It's too early to say Frank is on the clock. But he has a lot of problems to fix.

Obama Kill Switch

Obama Kill Switch, The Obama administration is busy attempting to pass legislation that would give the President a kill switch for the Internet in the United States while at the same time decrying Egyptian authorities for shutting down the Internet in a bid to deflate the unfolding revolution against Hosni Mubarak. The reason is simple – the government fears an Egypt-style revolt occurring in the U.S. and wants to block access to the world wide web if and when it happens.

Chicago radio host and occasional Alex Jones Show guest Mancow Muller called it right during an appearance on Mike Huckabee’s show this weekend.

“It’s in all the newspapers, ‘Ohblahblah’, we’ve got to free up Twitter, we’ve got to free up the Internet and Facebook for these poor Egyptians – this is the President that let Wikileaks and all of this stuff happen,” said Mancow.

“They create the problems and we react to fear — the the four letter f-word that controls the masses and they offer the solution, “they” being the government. This is the President that wants the kill switch for the Internet….he wants a kill switch.”

“They fear….social networking, Twitter, Facebook, all of this stuff, but oh, no, we must have it in Egypt, but we don’t want to have it in America.”
Mancow also pointed out how Egyptians were rioting over an economic fallout that has led to crippling tax hikes, wage reductions and spiraling food prices, a similar situation to what is unfolding in America, making reference to how Illinois state authorities recently agreed to hike taxes by a whopping 66 percent.

As we have illustrated, despite invoking supposedly genuine security concerns, the only time governments have resorted to shutting down the world wide web is when they feel the need to crush legitimate dissent against the state.

Indeed, at the height of the Stuxnet worm attack, the crisis was cited as another reason why cybersecurity legislation giving government control of the Internet was necessary. It later emerged that the Stuxnet virus itself was created by the US and Israel to target Iran’s nuclear program.

The Communist Chinese government is now blocking searches for the word “Egypt” on social networking websites in China, reflecting “the government’s fears that the protests in Egypt could whip up unrest in China.”

Sina.com public relations officer Ma Taotao confirms that Chinese searches for Egypt are blocked on its instant messaging site, Sina Weibo.

Ma says the company itself did not make the decision, but is only following the “relevant Chinese laws and regulations.” He gives no details and does not say which government department is responsible. He says he does not know how long the restriction will be in force.

The authoritarian Chinese government routinely blocks Internet access when it wishes to derail organized protests and marches, a telling lesson for Americans given the fact that cybersecurity guru Senator Joseph Lieberman openly admitted that the goal of the new kill switch in the U.S. was to mimic the Chinese system of Internet censorship.

“Right now China, the government, can disconnect parts of its Internet in case of war and we need to have that here too,” Lieberman told CNN’s Candy Crowley last year.

However, China’s “war” is not against foreign terrorists or hackers, it’s against people who dare to use the Internet to express dissent against government atrocities or corruption. China’s system of Internet policing is about crushing freedom of speech during times of political upheaval and has nothing to do with legitimate security concerns.

It’s a system concentrated around state oppression of any individual or group that seeks to use the Internet to draw attention to political causes frowned upon by the authorities.

China has exercised its power to shut down the Internet, something that Lieberman wants to introduce in the U.S., at politically sensitive times in order to stem the flow of information about government abuse of its citizens. During the anti-government riots which occurred in July 2009, the Chinese government completely shut down the Internet across the entire northwestern region of Xinjiang for days. In several regions, the authorities completely cut off the Internet for nearly a year. Major news and discussion portals used by the Muslim Uighurs in the area remain blocked. Similarly, Internet access in parts of Tibet is routinely restricted as part of government efforts to pre-empt and neutralize unrest.

Twitter, Facebook and Youtube are all banned in China and even sanitized government approved versions of these websites are now being shut down for long periods of time so that they can “remove all politically sensitive content under orders from Chinese internet authorities”.

Web censorship in China intensified after a micro-blogger began to expose the fact that many government officials, executives and judges had lied about obtaining degrees from prestigious universities. The government responded to the embarrassment by ordering websites to temporarily go into “maintenance” mode while they removed the pertinent material. What this has to do with fighting a “war,” as Lieberman claims, is anyone’s guess.

The Chinese system that Lieberman wants to bring to the United States is not only about censoring material critical of the state, it’s about identifying those who post it and thereby creating a chilling atmosphere that discourages others from exercising free speech in fear that they might be the next victims of the thought police. News websites in China now require users to register their true identities in order to leave comments.

This move towards abolishing Internet anonymity and creating a virtual ID card is a key centerpiece of Lieberman’s cybersecurity agenda.

This strategy revolves around, “The creation of a system for identity management that would allow citizens to use additional authentication techniques, such as physical tokens or modules on mobile phones, to verify who they are before buying things online or accessing such sensitive information as health or banking records.”

Only with this government-issued “token” will Internet users be allowed to “able to move from website to website,” a system not too far removed from what China proposed and rejected for being too authoritarian.

The examples of Egypt and China in shutting down Internet access to quell dissent against the state tell us everything we need to know about the motivations behind this odious policy and why it has no place in America, a supposedly free country.

While Obama criticizes Egyptian authorities for shutting down web access to disrupt protesters, his own administration prepares to launch a fresh attempt at instituting the exact same powers in America, which as recent history clearly demonstrates, represent tools for tyrannical regimes who wish to silence legitimate political opposition

Mary Harvey

Steve Harvey is the best-selling author behind "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man" and a new self-help book, "Straight Talk, No Chaser."

But there's one woman who won't be going to this comedian for advice: ex-wife Mary Harvey.

Following 16 years of marriage and a bitter divorce, Mary has taken to YouTube to warn those reading Harvey's tomes about the man to whom they are listening. She says Steve cheated on her multiple times, including once with a woman who actually told Mary the sex had been unprotected.

She also claims Steve has turned the couple's son, Wynton, against her.

Mary Harvey is still talking. After comedian and author Steve Harvey denied any of his ex-wife's accusations where she claimed he cheated on her and left her destitute, Mary took her story to HLN last night to discuss why she's speaking out years after their divorce.

Now, let me just say this.  I am (and was from the beginning) baffled on how any woman just "doesn't have access" to their own child.  Neither side has admitted to a court ruling saying she cannot see her child.  And unless there are drugs or abuse from the mother's end involved, how the hell doesn't she "have access" to her kid??  This all leads me to believe there is MUCH more to this story that we may never know.

Pro Bowl Score, The NFC jumped out to a quick 42-7 halftime lead, ensuring the game was all-but-over before viewers settled in for the game.

Matt Ryan led the way for the NFC, throwing for 118 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Drew Brees made a late entrance into the game, completing 4-6 passes for 68 yards. Michael Vick, the starter for the NFC, finished with 59 yards on 5-10 passing.

On the ground, it was the Adrian Peterson show as the Minnesota running back carried 14 times for 80 yards and a touchdown. Michael Turner added 53 yards on eight with Steven Jackson adding another 33 yards on six carries. Ovie Mughelli was the only other NFC back to find the end zone, scoring from one yard out.

Roddy White had a team-high 69 yards on five catches for the NFC, but never found the end zone. Tony Gonzalez added 42 yards and a touchdown on three catches. Larry Fitzgerald also caught a touchdown pass.

Philip Rivers led all passers with 192 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw two early interceptions. Matt Cassel also threw two touchdowns and two interceptions, finishing with 95 yards, as well. Peyton Manning was completely ineffective, only throwing for 12 yards and an interception.

Jamaal Charles scored the only rushing touchdown for the AFC and had 70 yards on the ground to lead the team. Reggie Wayne had a game-high 86 yards and a touchdown on five catches. Montell Owens, Alex Mack and Mercedes Lewis also caught touchdowns.

By the time it was all said and done, the NFC walked away with a 55-41 win. DeAngelo Hall took home MVP honors, recording six tackles, an interception and a fumble return for a touchdown.

Remember Alex Brown

Remember Alex Brown, Starlet Emma Roberts ditched the awards show glam and joined Justin Bieber and NASCAR stars Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle to appear on ABC Sunday's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" in honor of the Remember Alex Brown Foundation, a nonprofit organized after 17-year-old Alexandra Brown rolled her pickup truck and died on her way to school. She was texting and driving.

After being alerted that her daughter hadn't made it to school, Alex's mother Jeannie drove out to find the wreck of the truck. "Although no other vehicles were involved, Alex was not alone," she writes on the Foundation's official website. "The cell phone on which she had sent and receive over 10,000 text messages in the weeks preceding her accident was with her."

Volunteers arrived at the Brown home in Lubbock, TX to rebuild their home - now occupied by the remaining three family members, Jeanne, Johnny Mac, and Alex's 12-year-old sister Katrina a year after Alex's death.

"If Alex was here and seeing all this she would be so excited for us," Katrina told reporters. "She'd be like, 'I'm so glad y'all are getting this! Y'all are doing good. Keep going.'"

The Browns decided to start the Remember Alex Brown Foundation the day she died. "I chose to do it that day at the hospital," her father says. "We have to put the [wrecked] truck on a trailer and we have to go to schools and tell people about the dangers of texting and driving."

"Extreme Makeover" asked Roberts to join in for two reasons. "She's an incredible young actress," said Ty Pennington, "and she's a teen so she understands how big of an epidemic texting and driving is."

From Alex Brown’s parents:

We lost our daughter, Alex Brown, in a single car accident as she drove to what seemed like just another ordinary day of her senior year in high school. Although no other vehicles were involved, Alex was not alone. The cell phone on which she had sent and receive over 10,000 text messages in the weeks preceding her accident was with her. Alex lost her life to texting while driving.

Although Alex is no longer with us, her memory lives. We hope you choose to do the same. Through Alex’s memory we hope to educate others about the dangers of texting while driving.

SAG Awards 2011

SAG Awards 2011, The 2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards delivered a serious déjà vu experience, with most of the evening's winners being repeats of the previous weekend's Golden Globes extravaganza. Sandra Bullock ("The Blind Side") and Jeff Bridges ("Crazy Heart"), for instance, triumphed at both ceremonies. This year's SAG Awards take place two weeks after the Globes. Will the results be the same?

That would mean a dominating performance from "The Social Network," which nabbed four Globes, including Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Director. But "The King's Speech" is on the rise, locking up 12 Oscar nominations last week after Colin Firth won best dramatic actor at the Globes. And never count out, for that matter, "True Grit," which rebounded from a shutout in the Globe nominations to become a surprise box office hit ($148 million and counting) and then garner 10 Oscar nods. Oh, and today is Christian Bale's birthday, and the birthday boy could well walk away with supporting actor statue for "The Fighter."

All of which is to say: we have our suspicions and our theories, our personal favs and hoped-for dark horses, but there's no way to tell what's actually gonna go down until the show goes live. By now, the celebs like James Franco, Natalie Portman and Justin Timberlake have sashayed down the red carpet, done their best to avoid the rain, and entered the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles. The curtain rises in a matter of minutes. And MTV News is ready to rock with our SAG Awards live blog. Keep hitting refresh on your browser to find out the very latest news and analysis from the show.

9:07 p.m. I'm told by an insider that after Melissa Leo won her award, the announcer came on the loud-speaker and told winners to give shorter speeches. Ouch.

9:05 p.m. This is one of the strangest tributes I've ever seen on an awards show. The voiceover guy has a tone to his voice like he's about to start making fun of Borgnine any minute.

9:01 p.m. Shout-out to Ernest Borgnine, 94 years young and well-deserving of the SAG lifetime achievement award! 164 films on his resume. Damn, son!

8:59 p.m. Is it just me, or has Natalie Portman's baby bump tripled in size since the Globes? She's got that luminous pregnant glow too.

8:59 p.m. We're almost halfway through the show. Time to get down and dirty with the movie awards.

8:52 p.m. I love the fact that the actors get to accept the awards for best shows -- rather than producers -- but both Ed O'Neill and Buscemi delivered duds up there on the stage.

8:51 p.m. "Glee" won best comedic ensemble last year. But look at that! "Modern Family" comes out with a surprise win. Biggest upset of the night.

8:46 p.m. It took Betty 89 years to even get a SAG nomination?!

8:45 p.m. Yep, the universe was listening. Betty White is going to dominate 2011 as well. She wins best comedic actress for "Hot in Cleveland."

8:43 p.m. Looking at Jon Hamm up there on the stage, I can't help wondering what he would have been like as Superman. Lot of people were rooting for him. Alas, we can put those thoughts -- and that rooting -- to rest. Henry Cavill was announced today as the next big-screen Clark Kent.

8:41 p.m. Quite an O-face from Alec Baldwin after winning best comedic actor for "30 Rock." Dude, this is your fifth straight win!

8:39 p.m. Can anyone about that Amy Poehler's "Parks and Recreation" gets better every season? So happy that the NBC comedy is back on the lineup.

8:31 p.m. The award goes to Leo. I also chatted with her in Sundance. She was so delightfully self-deprecating about all this awards-season love. And...she almost tripped going up there! But still gave the night's best speech thus far. You can get political whenever you want, sister!

8:29 p.m. Look like it's gonna be, once again, "The Fighter" vs. "The Fighter" for outstanding female actor in a supporting role. Melissa Leo won the Globe Award. Can she take down Amy Adams once again?

8:27 p.m. Hey Dennis Haysbert. I chatted with him at Sundance a few days ago. He stars with Tobey Maguire in "The Details," an amazing new dark, dark comedy. They play basketball buddies, and according to Haysbert, Maguire didn't dare try to take the rock inside when they were playing one-on-one in their spare time.

8:25 p.m. Hey, second Teamsters shout-out of the night. Union pride in the house!

8:24 p.m. Um, Steve? You did better the first time. Guess you're not ready to go off-book during an acceptance speech.

8:23 p.m. It's a "Boardwalk Empire" kind of evening. After winning at the Globes, the freshman HBO takes home best dramatic series. Welcome back to the stage, Mr. Buscemi.

8:19 p.m. And we're back from the first commercial break. Taye Diggs is a lucky man. Sofia Vergara is looking lovely and a form-fitting blue dress.

8:12 p.m. Individual "Mad Men" actors just can't catch a break at the SAGs. Sorry Elizabeth Moss! Julianna Margulies wins best actress in a dramatic series. She's looking stunning in a red dress. And she thanked the Teamsters! Huzzah!

8:06 p.m. Congrats and all to Steve Buscemi ("Boardwalk Empire") for winning best male actor in a drama series, but I've got to say that Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad") got robbed! Third season of "BB" is as good as small-screen entertainment gets. For some reason, though, the SAGs have never had the "BB" love like the Emmys.

8:04 p.m. Can we all agree that Betty White should get to dominate more than one year? Let's make 2011 that lady's year too.

8:00 p.m. My takeaway from that intro? The SAG statue is super creepy: no mouth and no genitals. Is there a metaphor there?

7:59 p.m. One minute to go! In case you were wondering how Hollywood conquers an awards show in the rain, MTV News staffer Kara Warner has got your answer:

The Guardian Project

The Guardian Project was a collaborative effort between the NHL and comic book legend Stan Lee, which would see the creation of 30 new superheroes that represented each NHL team.

This was some sort of elaborate practical joke, or that the idea was just an example of the sort of ideas the NHL tossed around in the offseason out of boredom. I mean, NHL teams already have mascots, so surely giving each one a superhero would be silly, right?

We are starting to see the fruits of Stan Lee’s labour. The NHL has been slowly rolling out the superheroes one by one, giving us a glimpse of some of the 30 characters Lee created in a short six months or so.

The verdict: thumbs down.

The superheroes seem like the ones you would make up off the top of your head during recess when you were eight; you know, if you were too “husky” or “diabetesy” to play sports with the rest of the kids. It seems like each superhero was created in five minutes by looking at the team’s logo and name.

Take, for example, one of the recently revealed superheroes, The Wild, representing, you guessed it, The Minnesota Wild. The Wild’s superpowers include “General Mayhem” and, wait for it…“Tunnelling.”

No jokes.

So basically, this superhero acts ridiculous, breaks things, and dives into the first hole it sees. Sounds like a lot of frat boys I’ve met, but certainly not a superhero created to… wait, what were these created for again?

Some people have said that this is a new and creative idea that will at the very least give the NHL some positive attention. I disagree. I think this will go down as one of the NHL’s (many) failed marketing efforts. The Guardian Project could be this generation’s glowing puck.

I can see people talking about it years from now:

“Hey, remember that time the NHL made up superheroes? Man that was lame! Definitely one of Gary Bettman’s worst ideas, may he rest in peace.”

Jelena Ristic, As good as Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic appears on the court, some of his best form must have been reserved for the day he met Jelena Ristic.

According to a forum, Jelena Ristic is a student and has been Novak Djokovic girlfriend for 3 years now but actually met her 5 years ago.

Now we all know that the pretty girl cheering for Novak Djokovic on TV was, in fact, his girlfriend.

Because let's face it, a single glance at the couple and two things are abundantly clear - Djokovic might be tall, dark and handsome, but Ristic is simply a beauty.

As of now, Novak Djokovic girlfriend is a hot and scorching search term on the web. She got more attention now than boyfriend Novak Djokovic.

Also from Serbia, Ristic has been dating Djokovic for almost five years.

It's our pleasure to introduce her as Wide World of Sports' WAG of the Week.

Nick Diaz, Evangelista Santos, aka Cyborg, is one of the most entertaining brawlers in the history of mixed martial arts. With a middle of the road record upon first glance and only one fight at welterweight he had many fans claiming that he was not worthy of a shot at Nick Diaz and the Strikeforce welterweight crown. For the better part of two rounds Cyborg proved the doubters wrong by going nearly punch for punch with Diaz before making a tactical error that got him submitted via armbar.

Through two rounds Cyborg stuck to the gameplan of landing hard leg kicks, right straights and uppercuts while Diaz kept distance with a powerful jab and occasional right hand. The two men seemed to be engaged in some violent agreement to take turns landing heavy blows. Diaz would pin Cyborg to the cage and flurry only to have Cyborg get distance and land leg kicks and blistering right hands and then they're repeat.

With about thirty seconds left in round two, Cyborg went for a takedown and quickly found himself defending against an armbar. Diaz was able to get the arm fully extended with about ten seconds to go and force the tap. The takedown only makes sense if it was Cyborg attempting to secure the round on the judges scorecards but it was a bad idea to play into one of Diaz's main strengths in the submission game.

Corrlinks

Corrlinks, All Canadians, once convicted, are in the for-profit prisons run by GEO Group and Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), which do not have to adhere to the policy of balance of payments and procedure, have little supervision by the Department of Justice and balance of payments, and whose main challenge is the internal storage on the lowest possible cost. These private prisons are contracted by the U.S. Department of Justice for the 20 centers that house foreigners only, despite the cost to the taxpayer is nothing less than the cost of housing a U.S. citizen a center of balance of payments.

One of the inequities for Canadians is that Americans in the federal prison system in the U.S. have email Corrlinks. A and 3.00 per hour (no cost to the taxpayer), all U.S. citizens in federal prison are open e-mail, one day, with a maximum of 30 correspondents. (The correspondent can be added or deleted). This is extremely important for communication with loved ones, and news and access to legal material, as both Canadians and Americans only get 300 minutes of phone time total for an entire month. Most months, less than 10 minutes a day! This is the way in a short time. But when a prisoner has access to hours of email a day makes a big difference. Currently, convicted Canadians have access to email, while all U.S. federal prisoners in the prison system has access to email.

No exercise equipment of any kind here. Americans in every federal prison has treadmills, steppers and other equipment (in the fitness of each unit.) There are no plans to bring exercise equipment here. Not only are the most basic courses or vocations available here. In a U.S. federal prison for inmates of America, are abundant and accredited courses with certified instructors are also required. For Canadians and others here, the instructors are not accredited. Nor accredited courses. Currently offering classes DRJCI welding, horticulture, and culinary arts course, but these are largely false course with little relevant skill-building going on.

Canadians have real difficulty putting money in the account of a prisoner Canadian company store here. Americans can have your family send money orders or send money through Western Union using your credit cards or cash. Canadian families cannot send money orders, or the use of Western Union, nor can the Canadian families of prisoners Canadians use a Canadian-based VISA or MasterCard. Canadian families must travel to the U.S. to shop at Wal-Mart or some of these places, one based on prepaid MasterCard or VISA, or debit card, then put the money in your loved ones from the account with the monopoly of Keefe Commissary Network at http:// www.accesscorrections.com where service charges are considerable. Keefe is commonly thought, which supplies all the elements for inmates who buy at the commissary purchases and primarily the Bush family owns deposits to our accounts.

American inmates sent a low-security FCI is largely housed in 2-man cells. The “low” my judge, recommended that I send, FCI Lompoc, have cells of 2 men. In fact, a man of Sea-Tac FDC – a bank robber 9-hour with a bomb while robbing banks – was sent to “low” security of Lompoc, full e-mail, exercise equipment, the outdoor visits and dozens of courses & vocations, while I, a political prisoner who sells cannabis seeds, I’m in a “low” concentration camp for foreign security without any basic amenities are American prisoners for granted. He was sent to a precision of “low” security FCI near his home in Washington state, as the Bureau of Prisons requirements are that an American should be placed in a facility within 500 miles of your home (although does not happen that often anyway). I’m 4000 miles from my house, requiring my wife to travel by plane for 9 to 13 hours of flight, and up to 48 hours total transit time to get here, as was the case on two occasions so far. All Canadians here are in the private prison farther away from home, the situation exactly opposite to what is required for inmates of America. No federal facilities farther away from Vancouver in this corner of southeastern Georgia (Florida does not have federal prisons for foreigners).

The Law Library has this Lexus / Nexus, which is complete compilation of the statutes of U.S. law. That’s it. Is there anything else here, I have brought: dictionaries, the procedure legal assistant, lawyer jail manual, Auto prisoners Help Litigation Manual, bulletins, etc. No email, we cannot make requests for legal assistance or material, the addresses of government agencies, or groups of prisoners of assistance. With only 300 minutes and a fixed list of phone numbers allowed to be contacted, we cannot call outside legal help to send or provide materials. Americans therefore have a much more advantageous ability to do legal work on behalf of prisoners and others.

The library reading is supposed to have 30 to 50 subscriptions to magazines to inmates with a variety of current reading material. No contemporary novels or reference books in either English or Spanish. 400 books in Spanish, largely fiction classic, was delivered to DRJCI became a federal prison, but no contemporary or illustrated was one of these books. Essentially, the library has books obsolete and largely useless here management refuses donations from outside sources, domestic as well as refusing to spend money on a regular infusion of new materials. A librarian certificate is required at any inmate library balance of payments; while DRJCI has a part-time professor sitting in the library, under the auspices control Dr. Davis, to ensure that no progress of any kind is carried out.

Jeremiah Johnson

Jeremiah Johnson, This is a new experience of self-proclaimed “Man Mountain” that some are beginning to call “Jeremiah Johnson” movie of the same name. Robert Redford plays the leading role and it is nearly as large as Ziemba. But it does not matter.

After testing earlier this week, I made her long hair and bushy beard and asked him if he was a man of the mountain.

He flexed his muscles, closed fist in the air and replied: “Yes, sir, through and through. I like to hunt and fish. I love the mountains. ”

On his right arm is a tattoo – the Bible verse from Jer. 29-11. Only part of it showed in his jersey, but the point was made. Ziemba is proud of his religious belief and did not return the share should the opportunity arise.

Long hair and beard are part of his personality; do not try to come off soon.

“Of course, people sometimes pull in a stack during a game,” he said. “But I’m used to. It does not bother me. ”

He is 6-foot-6, 317 pounds and many a man. Football fans know him as Lee Ziemba, Auburn offensive tackle left for BCS National Championship football team. In fact, it was very important factors in the Tigers win this title.
He won the Jacobs Blocking SEC, was appointed to certain football teams All-America and was invited to play in the Senior Bowl today, Thurs.

First, Jeremiah Johnson today may seem old and worn: He played in theaters at a time when the West had a difficult time. Classic westerns of John Ford and John Wayne were a distant memory, replaced by the more cynical, stylish westerns of Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood.
Jeremiah Johnson had a profound impact on the film industry in another, more sustainable way. Redford Jeremiah Johnson filmed in his state of Utah adopted at the height of winter, a stone’s throw from Park City. Redford, originally a beach bum in Santa Monica, was overwhelmed by the visual poetry of the mountain to the west, and the seed was planted for the Sundance Film Festival. The Utah / US Film Festival, as it was originally known, was established six years later, in 1978.

Jeremiah Johnson is relevant today, too, because it followed closely on the heels of the original True Grit, Henry Hathaway in 1969 West with the legendary John Wayne: aging, Marshal States United vicious hired by a young 14 year old daughter to follow in his father’s murderer.

Jeremiah Johnson seeing today is a slow TV Saturday is as much an eyeopener today as it was then. This is the traditional film narrative with a beginning, middle and coherent ending, but it has a restless spirit. It is visually impressive, even shoehorned into the tiny dimensions of a TV. It is poignant and profound, and still laughs out loud funny at times (just try not to laugh at the line, “Elk do not know how many feet a horse has”), noble and infinitely sad.

Ernest Borgnine

Ernest Borgnine, “I am delighted to be part of the celebration honoring the career of Ernest Borgnine,” said Curtiss. “Michelle and I are passionate about the arts and cinema in particular. I am a longtime fan of Mr. Borgnine and believe that its recognition by SAG is well deserved.”

Volterra-located in Seattle, Washington and is open for dinner nightly and brunch on weekends, features seasonal Tuscan specialties of internationally acclaimed Chef Don Curtiss, all natural and organic meats and poultry, pasta Housemade and deli, and a Wine Spectator award winning wine list. The 75-seat restaurant also features a patio in warm weather and eating late at night in the bar.

Ernest Borgnine is not a big deal of his birthday, the 94th.
A phone call from a cousin in Italy, which he answers in Italian strong, very well. Birthday present from near and far, very good. But big plans for the evening, at the suggestion of his children? Not at all.

“It’s just an ordinary day. Why make such a fuss? I must go out and get drunk or what? Do you mind if I just stay home? Is exactly what I do,” he said, punctuating his speech with a laugh.

This is not stingy. Belly laughs are frequent during a 45-minute conversation in the home hill of the actor, who will receive the Life Achievement Award at The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday (TNT and TBS, 8 & / 5 PT). It lights up like Tova, his wife of nearly 40 years, stops to say hello.

Borgnine credits her mother, suggesting that he try to play when he was looking for work after 10 years in the Navy. “She said:” Have you ever thought about becoming an actor? “You always want to make a fool of yourself in front of people. Why not try?”

The Connecticut native talks about a varied career over 60 years, to act at Virginia Barter Theatre and 30 per week, working with Helen Hayes on Broadway, with Gary Cooper and Spencer Tracy in the film and, for many a generation younger, SpongeBob SquarePants on television. He and Frank Sinatra signed their Christmas cards and Fatso Maggio, their respective figures in 1953 for From Here to Eternity, a role in small groups to Borgnine.

This is a snapshot of the history of cinema, when talks about the search for Borgnine Burt Lancaster and his compatriot Jimmy Cagney candidate Grace Kelly announced his name as the winner of best actor Oscar for playing 1955-butcher Marty in solitary.

“Jerry Lewis had bet money my ninety-eight I had won. I went home and took 198 coins and put them in a red sock, and I went there, they all asked I went to Jerry Lewis, “the actor said, pointing to the Oscars on a shelf in the living room.

After initially resisting TV series, ego driven Borgnine in an environment most of the cast does not affect the early 60s. A candy sale child could not identify the actor but he was familiar with James Arness Gunsmoke and Have Gun Will Travel Richard Boone. He persuaded the Navy to appeal inMcHale.

“It’s been a long and successful (career) success in many ways. There were many heartaches and many tears and worry about the job and everything else,” he said. ” But we did and we’re here. “

Halo Corporation, A new book develops a case of reconciliation between the Jewish people and Jesus. In his first book The Jewish People and Jesus, the author Joseph Butta invites the modern Jews and non-Jews to make informed decisions without rabbinical commentary, engaging in a practical format that answers questions.

The book provides traditional Jewish “objections” against the acceptance of the New Covenant, followed by a response to respond to these traditional objections. With arguments carefully mapped-out who became a series of connections, the book depicts traditional Jewish objections in a form that finally allows the reader to decide what they think of reconciliation.

“I wrote this book in a connect-the-point, logically,” Butta said. “Ultimately the reader is invited to make a decision, which could be the most important decision they’ve ever done.”

To logic and common sense and deal with controversial issues of faith, questions of where in the Butta Tenakh / Old Testament rabbis were given the power to tell the Jews that their acceptance of Yeshua denied their Jewishness.

Butta also alludes to the biblical ignorance among people who call themselves Christians. Introducing Christian perspective traditional Jewish, The Jewish People and Jesus highlights the importance of understanding the Christian anti-Semitism and the corner of 2000 years it has helped train between Christians and Jews.

“Talking about these issues face to face can lead to verbal conflict,” Butta said. “This book allows both perspectives to the surface and the reader to decide, without conflict.”

About the author: Joseph Butta is an independentanlyst with a background in Middle Eastern studies, including the three monotheistic religions that began in this region. It offers information sessions for local audiences, federal and foreign to the United States and Europe. He worked for the HALO Society as a presenter of the course and provides threatanlysis to support personnel security operations.

Butta holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Towson University. He is a member of the Institute of Jewish Studies and Christian plays in the Little Italy Bocce League. He and his family live in Maryland. It is his first book.

Dream Girls

Dream Girls, Hollywood is generally impervious to embarrassment, but maybe one of those moments when the signal that the industry should engage in a little introspection on the image he projected to the outside world. At the time of the Oscar, the projector is on show business, which in a country increasingly proving to be a multicultural company that is as white on the outside as it is inside.
Latino and black actors can get parts as soldiers in an action movie or comic sidekicks in a comedy, but when it comes to the nature of dramatic roles that attract Oscar attention, they need a helping Luckily, as one Mo’Nique got to have a black filmmaker making the right choice of casting. Or that of Jennifer Hudson won with her role in “Dreamgirls” imposed on the scene. Or that Morgan Freeman won, landing an Oscar nomination last year by Nelson Mandela in “Invictus,” because he has a long experience of working with Clint Eastwood.

What does this have to do with the Oscars? Films that end up being nominated for Oscars are usually works of love and are rarely the kind of action hero easily accessible or widely comic characters that respond to a studio on the sensitivity of baseline. If you do not have a person of color in the room where the decision goes, fervently arguing why a film should be introduced into the world, it is extremely difficult for a project revolving around characters Afro- U.S. to emerge with a green light or any substantial financial support.
For a change of pace, in Dreamgirls, Bill Condon’s novel in 2006-a-key musical starring Jamie Foxx, Beyoncé Knowles and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, shown tonight in all its glory of three hours. (ABC, 8 ET / PT.
There are moments of genuine emotional majesty in Jeremiah Johnson, a relatively little-known 1972 American western directed by relative unknown and Sydney Pollack and starring a young Robert Redford.

Redford plays the title character, a veteran tired of the war 1846-’48 Mexican-American who seeks refuge and solace in becoming a recluse in the Rocky Mountains remain as a trapper and guide for the occasional rental in the snow in the mountains smothered password.

First, Jeremiah Johnson today may seem old and worn: He played in theaters at a time when the West had a difficult time. Classic westerns of John Ford and John Wayne were a distant memory, replaced by the more cynical, stylish westerns of Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood.

Jeremiah Johnson was written by John Milius and Edward Anhalt by Raymond Thorp and Robert Bunker historical biography Crow Killer: The Saga of Liver-Eating Johnson, the 1840 real-life mountain man “Liver Eating Johnson.”

The story is both traditional – the theme is good, old American independence in the face of physical suffering and danger – and forward-thinking: Jeremiah Johnson was one of the first of a new wave of movie Westerns to represent In crude terms and painfully realistic, tension between the difficult early settlers of the western United States and the Crow and indigenous tribes of the Blackfoot in the region.

Alissa Czisny

Alissa Czisny has won the national championship!!!!  And she gave an amazing performance to get there. Rachael Flatt was able to snag the silver and Mirai Nagasu had to settle for bronze, and will not likely make worlds since there are only two spots.  Sad.  Neither Flatt nor Nagasu could hold a candle to Czisny tonight.

Alissa Czisny became a national champion for a second time in her career, edging Rachael Flatt for first place at the US Figure Skating Championships 2011 Saturday night.

Czisny, who also won the title in 2009, landed a triple loop and her triple toe was outstanding, on the way to a free skate score of 128.74. That boosted her total to 191.24, which was well ahead of the defending champion Flatt (183.38).

“I was really nervous before I went out there,” Czisny said. “I knew exactly what I had to do. Before every jump I thought about what I was here for and what my goals were. I fought for every single thing.”

Flatt, who was in third place going into the free skate, had trouble landing a double axel-triple toe combination early in her routine. Yet, she still finished ahead of Mirai Nagasu (177.26), the 2008 champion who was in the lead following Thursday’s short program.

“It certainly wasn’t my best,” Flatt said. “I’ve been training clean programs at home and I did two clean long programs while I was here. Obviously, it was a little bit disappointing.”

David Frye

Comic David Frye, whose impressions of Presidents Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson and other prominent political figures vaulted him to popularity in the 1960s and 1970s, has died in Las Vegas, his family confirmed Saturday. He was 77.

Frye died at his home Monday of cardiopulmonary arrest, Clark County Coroner Mike Murphy said.

Frye’s sister, Ruth Welch of Boynton Beach, Fla., said he was a born comic genius who wrote his own material and began by imitating neighbors in Brooklyn, N.Y., where they grew up.

“He had an eye for people’s movements and an ear for their voices,” Welch told The Associated Press on Saturday. “He could really get down people’s mannerisms and intonations.”

Among other venues, Frye performed at colleges and nightclubs across the country as well as on television programs such as the “Ed Sullivan Show” and “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.”

He reached the height of his popularity doing exaggerated impressions of Nixon, with his shoulders hunched and face bowed down. He also devoted several albums to Nixon before Nixon resigned as president in 1974 amid the Watergate scandal.

Born David Shapiro in 1934 in Brooklyn, Frye also imitated such political and entertainment figures as Hubert Humphrey, George Wallace, William F. Buckley, Walter Cronkite, Kirk Douglas and Howard Cosell.

In a 1986 interview while playing the Riviera Hotel and Casino, Frye told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he rarely made television appearances anymore and therefore hardly ever worked nightclubs.

“I haven’t worked on a nightclub stage in years,” Frye said. “TV gives you exposure and in turn, drawing power. There aren’t too many shows left on TV where a guy like me can perform. So with no drawing power, I’m not in demand on the nightclub circuit.”

He recorded the albums “David Frye Presents the Great Debate” in 1980 and “Clinton: An Oral History” in 1998, but never again saw the level of fame he achieved in the Nixon years.

Welch said Frye was a “wonderful” brother who moved to Las Vegas about eight years ago from Beverly Hills, Calif.

“He was a generous person and a very good brother in time of need,” she said. “He was very much loved by the whole family, and he’ll be terribly missed.”

Titan FC 16 takes place Friday night at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. The main card, headlined by Sylvia vs. Wagner, airs live on HDNet at 10 p.m. ET.

Kim Clijsters

Kim Clijsters: After an opening set in Rod Laver Arena that made it seem all but certain this one would go the other way, No. 3 Kim Clijsters rallied to defeat Li Na, 3-6 6-3 6-3, in the finals of the Australian Open 2011. Li is the first Chinese player, male or female, to reach the finals of a Grand Slam event. She will not be the last, and she may yet be the first player to win a tournament of this magnitude, but when Clijsters is having one of her night's, it's proven quite difficult for it to be anybody else's night.

Following a largely unremarkable first set in which Clijsters seemed more than a little discombobulated, the two women traded breaks to open the second set in a fit of mutual ineptitude, but trailing 3-4 in the second, it became uncomfortably apparent that Li was feeling the pressure.

From there, it was as good as over. Kim Clijsters is a player on a comeback tour, but she's never lost her afterburners, and she reeled off the final set with every bit of her vaunted fierce concentration on display.

Since turning pro in 1997, Clijsters has won three U.S. Open titles, reached the finals at Roland Garros in 2003 and the finals here in Melbourne in 2004. Her Waterloo seems to be Wimbledon, but after winning two consecutive Grand Slam events, who's to say she couldn't make a run at the gold at the All England Club this summer? If this is indeed the farewell leg of her tour before retirement, what a note to depart on.

And it's far from over for Li, if she can rebound mentally for this. She beat Clijsters at the last tournament in Sydney before the first Grand Slam event of the season, and she has the support of a massive nation behind her. And as of right now, she's been here before.

Julie Powers Schenecker, a Florida mother admitted to killing her two teenage children because they were being “mouthy”.

Officers responding to a welfare check on a family in an upscale gated community in Tampa found two teenagers shot to death and their mother completely covered in blood.

According to Tampa police spokesperson Laura McElroy, officers received a call early Friday morning from a woman in Texas, who was concerned about her 50-year-old daughter and her two grandchildren.

The woman told officers that her daughter, Julie Powers Schenecker had been complaining about her two teenage children and had been depressed.

When officers arrived at the home they found Schenecker on her back porch covered in blood.

Officers entered the home and found Schenecker’s 16-year-old daughter, Calyx Powers, in an upstairs bedroom.  They later found her 13-year-old son Powers Beau dead in an SUV in the garage.

Police said both kids were shot in the head with a .38-caliber pistol.

According to McElroy, Schenecker, whose husband is an Army colonel serving in Qatar, wrote a detailed note outlining her plans to kill her disrespectful children then herself.  She said in the note Schenecker said “they talked back and were mouthy and that she was going to take care of it,” McElroy said.

Schenecker was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Parker Schenecker was notified of his children’s death Friday afternoon.

Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase accounted for a quarter of all bank complaints in Florida last year, with mortgage disputes by far the most common gripe statewide, according to an analysis released Monday. Mortgage gripes accounted for almost a third (30%) of all complaints, followed by account balance disclosures (21%).

Miami economist and bank consultant Ken Thomas, who based his analysis on three years’ worth of data from the Florida Division of Financial Institutions, said he wasn’t surprised at Bank of America’s top rank because it’s the largest institution in Florida. What was surprising, he said, is that complaints about the North Carolina-based megabank have risen each of the past two years, while the total number of bank complaints in Florida fell 25% from 2009 to 2010.

In 2008, Bank of America accounted for just over 12% of all complaints statewide; by last year, its share had risen to 16.5% of all complaints. Bank of America spokeswoman Christina Beyer Toth said bank personnel familiar with tracking complaints were not available Monday.

JPMorgan Chase stood out in a different way. The bank has less than 3% of Florida deposits but represented nearly 9% of complaints. Chase spokeswoman Daisy Cabrera declined to address specifics, saying the bank had not seen the analysis. But Cabrera maintained Chase addresses customer complaints “quickly and efficiently. … We remain committed to continuing our Florida expansion and helping customers.”

Thomas said the DFI database includes complaints for Chase affiliates, such as credit-card operations, but the data in these tables are only for the bank. Even if Chase’s numbers were inflated because some credit-card complaints were miscategorized, the data still shows persistently high complaint levels since 2008. Two years after Chase bought and integrated Washington Mutual, which greatly helped expand its Florida footprint, the complaint numbers should be lower, he said.

The report’s bottom line, Thomas said, is that Bank of America and Chase stick out in the complaint department in contrast to institutions such as Wells Fargo, which had a lower complaint ratio compared to deposits, even after absorbing the troubled Wachovia Corp.

“The fact is that some financial institutions do a better job of serving customers than others,” he said. “Those having financial or other difficulties often cut back on employees and customer service. Even the strongest banks, however, can have many complaints if they are not serving their customers well.”

Among other findings, a credit union cracked the top five complaint list: Space Coast Credit Union, which assumed assets of the failed Eastern Financial Florida FCU. Saxon Mortgage Services, which assumed part of the mortgage portfolio of the failed Taylor, Bean & Whitaker operation, also ranked high for its size.

Picher Oklahoma: U.S. town demolished over lead contamination and turn into a ghost town.

Most of its residents left, the school closed, the city government was disbanded, and starting this week nearly every commercial building in Picher, Oklahoma, will be demolished. But the owner of the last-remaining open business in Picher, which has been vacated over the years because of lead contamination, is not ready to go. “It’s not time for me to leave yet,” said Gary Linderman, owner of Old Miner’s Pharmacy in what is left of central Picher.

from a recent visitor to Picher, Oklahoma…

In one of the most jarringly sad but mesmerizing expericences of my life, I recently visited the ruins of the small community of Picher, Oklahoma.

Picher was heavily contaminated by lead and the government was in the process of buying out the property in the town when in 2008, a massive, devastating EF4 tornado struck.

The town’s remaining holdouts accepted the government shortly afterward, and Picher became a modern day ghost town. (My heartfelt condolences to the former residents on the loss of their community)

Despite my at times shaky camerawork and my starting the camera too quickly driving into Picher, this town’s story I think bears telling, and being there today is a deeply unsettling, eerie experience…

Charlie Callas, a zany comedian who made his mark on television and the nightclub circuit in the 1960s, 70′s, and 80′s, often using sound effects as punch lines to his jokes, died on Thursday (Jan. 27) in Nevada. He was 83. We apologize to the Wood Family and especially the Callas family.
At the moment, cause of death is unknown.

Mr. Callas appeared on virtually every television variety and talk show in the days of Ed Sullivan, Jackie Gleason, and Johnny Carson. He was a regular on The Andy Williams Show and The ABC Comedy Hour, a semiregular on The Flip Wilson Show and a co-host of The Joey Bishop Show.
